Research & Development

‘Build in Wood’ is a typical project: running until 2023, Ergodomus is part of a consortium of 21 companies and organisations exploring how to remove barriers timber construction by developing standard industrialised timber systems. Funded to the tune of €10m from the EU Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme, the project aims to maximise impact on housing demand throughout Europe, focusing on the design and manufacture of wood-based systems for 3-10 storey apartment buildings, 1.6m of which are needed each year across the continent.

Ergodomus works directly with commercial companies to search and develop bespoke timber components and systems as well as new wood products with potential to be mainstreamed into the construction industry. A good example is in the area of Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) where we have collaborated with a Polish modular housing company to develop new, more efficient components to connect timber-based modules to core structures.

Find out more about our current R&D projects and opportunities to work with Ergodomus on new initiatives and commercial possibilities: if it involves timber, we’re interested!
